Probes from Khan al-Assal show chemicals used in the March 19 attack did not belong to standard Syrian army ammunition, and that the shell carrying the substance was similar to those made by a rebel fighter group, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

A statement released by the ministry on Wednesday particularly drew attention to the “massive stove-piping of various information aimed at placing the responsibility for the alleged chemical weapons use in Syria on Damascus, even though the results of the UN investigation have not yet been revealed.”

By such means “the way is being paved for military action” against Damascus, the ministry pointed out.

But the samples taken at the site of the March 19 attack and analyzed by Russian experts indicate that a projectile carrying the deadly nerve agent sarin was most likely fired at Khan al-Assal by the rebels, the ministry statement suggests, outlining the 100-page report handed over to the UN by Russia.

The key points of the report have been given as follows:

• the shell used in the incident “does not belong to the standard ammunition of the Syrian army and was crudely according to type and parameters of the rocket-propelled unguided missiles manufactured in the north of Syria by the so-called Bashair al-Nasr brigade”;
• RDX, which is also known as hexogen or cyclonite, was used as the bursting charge for the shell, and it is “not used in standard chemical munitions”;
• soil and shell samples contain “the non-industrially synthesized nerve agent sarin and diisopropylfluorophosphate,” which was “used by Western states for producing chemical weapons during World War II.”The findings of the report are “extremely specific,” as they mostly consist of scientific and technical data from probes’ analysis, the ministry stressed, adding that this data can “substantially aid” the UN investigation of the incident.

While focusing on the Khan al-Assal attack on March 19, in which at least 26 civilians and Syrian army soldiers were killed, and 86 more were injured, the Russian Foreign Ministry also criticized the “flawed selective approach” of certain states in reporting the recent incidents of alleged chemical weapons use in August.

The hype around the alleged attack on the eastern Damascus suburb of Ghouta showed “apparent attempts to cast a veil over the incidents of gas poisoning of Syrian army soldiers on August 22, 24 and 25,” the ministry said, adding that all the respective evidence was handed to the UN by Syria.

The condition of the soldiers who, according to Damascus, suffered poisoning after discovering tanks with traces of sarin, has been examined and documented by the UN inspectors, the ministry pointed out, adding that “any objective investigation of the August 21 incident in eastern Ghouta is impossible without the consideration of all these facts.”

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday said the UN investigators are set to return to Syria to investigate several other cases of alleged chemical weapons use, including the March 19 incident in Khan al-Assal.

One of Syrian President Bashar al Assad’s advisers has said the United States is using “lies” and “fabrications” to justify the use of the military force.

Dr Bouthaina Shaaban told Sky News the Syrian government was not behind the August 21 attack in which the US estimates 1,400 people were killed, and accused the West of standing in the way of democracy.

“They claim to want to be targeting weapons in exactly the same way they claimed to be targeting weapons of mass destruction in Iraq,” she said.

“They are using the same lies, the same fabrications, the same claims, in order to target our country and our people.”

It came after President Barack Obama, who is trying to secure support at home and abroad for the use of force in Syria, said failure to respond to the use of chemical weapons would risk further attacks.

US Congress will decide next week whether to authorise military action, after a draft resolution, limiting initial attacks to 60 days and ruling out “boots on the ground”, cleared its first congressional hurdle.

It won the support of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, while some of the President’s top security aides appeared before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee to make their case for military intervention.

Speaking ahead of a G20 summit in Russia at which the Syria crisis is likely to feature strongly, Mr Obama said the international community could not “be silent” in the face of “barbarism”.

He also said he had “hit a wall” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has warned the use of force without UN approval would be an “aggression” and a violation of international law.

The two leaders had been due to meet ahead of the St Petersburg summit but Mr Obama cancelled the engagement, travelling instead to Sweden.

In other developments, Syria’s deputy foreign minister said the regime would not give in to threats of a US-led military strike against the country.

“The Syrian government will not change position even if there is World War III,” Faisal Muqdad said. “No Syrian can sacrifice the independence of his country.”

French PM Mr Ayrault addresses MPs during a debate on the crisis

Meanwhile, French politicians have been debating whether to join any possible military intervention, although they will not vote on the subject.

The country’s President Francois Hollande has the power to order short military action without parliamentary approval.

Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault told an emergency meeting of MPs: “To not act would be to put in danger peace and security in the entire region.

“What message would this send to other regimes? The message would be clear – you can continue.”

Meanwhile, Hans Blix, a former UN arms inspector, told Sky News Mr Obama risks undermining the UN by taking military action alone.

“I understand him when he says that if the global community does not intervene against the violation of the ban on the use of chemical weapons, we’re on a slippery slope,” he said.

“However, he hasn’t addressed the question of undermining the charter of the UN, which requires that states do not use force unless it’s in self defence or has been authorised by the Security Council.”

In Britain, Foreign Secretary William Hague is expected to meet with Ahmed Asi Al Jarba, the President of the Syrian National Coalition.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said the meeting comes at a “critical time”, with discussions likely to include how the UK may offer “practical support”.

At the first Prime Minister’s Questions of the autumn, David Cameron attacked Labour for its stance on military action in Syria, as an Ipsos Mori poll revealed 64% of Britons were dissatisfied with his handling of the crisis.

US readies possible missile strike against Syria

Despite President Obama cautioning against intervention in Syria, the Pentagon is making “initial preparations” for a cruise missile attack on Syrian government forces, according to a new report.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey is expected to present options for such a strike at a White House meeting on Saturday, CBS News reported on Friday.

US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel suggested Friday naval forces are moving in position closer to Syria in case Obama chooses action.

“The Defense Department has a responsibility to provide the president with options for contingencies, and that requires positioning our forces, positioning our assets, to be able to carry out different options — whatever options the president might choose,” Hagel said, adding a decision must be made quickly given “there may be another (chemical) attack.”

Meanwhile, a defense official, cited by Reuters, said on Friday the US Navy was expanding its Mediterranean presence with a fourth cruise-missile ship, the USS Mahan. Though the source stressed to Reuters the Navy did not have orders to prepare for military operations against Syria.

The ship was due to head back to the United States, but the commander of the US Sixth Fleet decided to maintain the ship in the region.

All four ships are capable of launching long-range, subsonic cruise missiles to reach land targets.

President Barack Obama is under renewed pressure to take action following the emergence of footage of what appears to be the aftermath of a toxic agent attack in a Damascus suburb on Wednesday. The forces of President Bashar Assad were assaulting a rebel stronghold in the district at the time, but deny responsibility. Moscow, which has maintained close ties with the regime, called the incident a rebel “provocation” possibly designed to derail upcoming Geneva peace talks.

Though the Pentagon will present plans for potential action on Saturday, as CBS reported, President Obama has final say on any further developments.

Questioned on the continuing upheaval in Syria and Egypt during a CNN interview Friday, Obama saidthe United States should be wary of “being drawn into very expensive, difficult, costly interventions that actually breed more resentment in the region.”

Obama went on to express reservations for becoming involved in the 30-month Syrian conflict due to a lack of international consensus.

“If the US goes in and attacks another country without a UN mandate and without clear evidence that can be presented, then there are questions in terms of whether international law supports it, [and] do we have the coalition to make it work?” said Obama.

Despite his cautious tone, Obama’s national security adviser Susan Rice said via Twitter, “What is Bashar al Assad hiding? The world is demanding an independent investigation of Wednesday’s apparent CW attack. Immediately.”

Adding to the rhetoric in Washington, Sen. John McCain said that if the administration was to “let this go on,” it was “writing a blank check to other brutal dictators around the world if they want to use chemical weapons.”

The top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee also spoke out in support of a strike in Syria, writing to Obama of the need to respond to the latest alleged outrage.

“If we, in concert with our allies, do not respond to Assad’s murderous uses of weapons of mass destruction, malevolent countries and bad actors around the world will see a green light where one was never intended,” Rep. Eliot Engel wrote on Friday.

Engel has been a proponent of a more aggressive approach to Assad’s government.

“And, we can do this with no boots on the ground, from stand-off distances,” he added in the letter. “I know that your Administration is wrestling with these very complex issues, but I believe that we, as Americans, have a moral obligation to step in without delay and stop the slaughter.”

Obama insisted to CNN that while the United States remains “the one indispensable nation” in international diplomacy, he suggested that perhaps this was one conflict where the world should not look to Washington for a definitive answer.

“The notion that the US can somehow solve what is a sectarian complex problem inside of Syria sometimes is overstated,” said the president.

The White House later released a statement confirming Obama’s words, and emphasizing that the US has no plans to put “boots on the ground.”

Around 3,600 Syrians have been treated for “neurotoxic symptoms”, and 355 of them have died, says the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

The victims flooded into three Syrian hospitals on the day that hundreds of people were allegedly killed in a “chemical massacre” outside the capital Damascus.

They all arrived within less than three hours of each other, said MSF director of operations Bart Janssens.

He said the pattern of events and reported symptoms “strongly indicate mass exposure to neurotoxic agent”.

“Medical staff working in these facilities provided detailed information to MSF doctors regarding large numbers of patients arriving with symptoms including convulsions, excess saliva, pinpoint pupils, blurred vision and respiratory distress,” he said.

This story got a lot of buzz on the Internets today, as it seemed to suggest that the dragnetting of America’s phone metadata and browsing habits via Prism by NSA might be resulting in young couples with simultaneous interests in new pressure cookers and backpacking were being raided by armed law enforcement.

The blogger in question is Michele Catalano, who some of you may remember from her blog, “A Small Victory,” on which she wrote during the mid-2000s. As the story evolved throughout the day, police released a statement clarifying that it wasn’t NSA’s dragnetting that got her family ensnared but the “see something say something” impulse of an employer on whose computer the above Googling occurred.

Here is Catalano’s account of her experience, which she theorized had something to do with her family’s Googling habits, based on the questioning her husband got. Read the whole thing because she’s a good writer:

What happened was this: At about 9:00 am, my husband, who happened to be home yesterday, was sitting in the living room with our two dogs when he heard a couple of cars pull up outside. He looked out the window and saw three black SUVs in front of our house; two at the curb in front and one pulled up behind my husband’s Jeep in the driveway, as if to block him from leaving.

Six gentleman in casual clothes emerged from the vehicles and spread out as they walked toward the house, two toward the backyard on one side, two on the other side, two toward the front door.

A million things went through my husband’s head. None of which were right. He walked outside and the men greeted him by flashing badges. He could see they all had guns holstered in their waistbands.

“Are you [name redacted]?” one asked while glancing at a clipboard. He affirmed that was indeed him, and was asked if they could come in. Sure, he said.

They asked if they could search the house, though it turned out to be just a cursory search. They walked around the living room, studied the books on the shelf (nope, no bomb making books, no Anarchist Cookbook), looked at all our pictures, glanced into our bedroom, pet our dogs. They asked if they could go in my son’s bedroom but when my husband said my son was sleeping in there, they let it be.

Meanwhile, they were peppering my husband with questions. Where is he from? Where are his parents from? They asked about me, where was I, where do I work, where do my parents live. Do you have any bombs, they asked. Do you own a pressure cooker? My husband said no, but we have a rice cooker. Can you make a bomb with that? My husband said no, my wife uses it to make quinoa. What the hell is quinoa, they asked.

They searched the backyard. They walked around the garage, as much as one could walk around a garage strewn with yardworking equipment and various junk. They went back in the house and asked more questions.

Have you ever looked up how to make a pressure cooker bomb? My husband, ever the oppositional kind, asked them if they themselves weren’t curious as to how a pressure cooker bomb works, if they ever looked it up. Two of them admitted they did.

So more freedoms are being taken, people google certain words and phrases and the cops are at the door. US government pays at least £100m to the UK spy agency

The US government has paid at least £100m to the UK spy agency GCHQ over the last three years, according to documents leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The payments were made to secure access to Britain’s intelligence gathering programmes, according to the documents viewed by The Guardian newspaper.

The revelations have emerged after Snowden was granted a year’s asylum in Russia following more than a month inside an airport terminal.

The fugitive left Moscow airport in a taxi, although his intended destination was not clear. The US said it was “extremely disappointed” by Russia’s decision.

The payments to GCHQ are set out in the latest cache of leaked documents which make clear that the Americans expect a return on the investment.

“GCHQ must pull its weight and be seen to pull its weight,” a GCHQ strategy briefing, reported in The Guardian, insisted.

Snowden’s supporters say he has a right to freedom of speech

The funding highlights the close relationship between GCHQ and America’s National Security Agency (NSA) and raises fears about Washington’s hold over the British agency.

In another document from 2010, GCHQ acknowledges that the US had “raised a number of issues with regards to meeting NSA’s minimum expectations”.

It said GCHQ “still remains short of the full NSA ask”. Ministers have denied that GCHQ does the NSA’s “dirty work”.

Snowden, a former NSA contractor who is wanted by the US on espionage charges, has in the past warned about the relationship between the two agencies.

He said the organisations have been jointly responsible for developing techniques that allow the mass harvesting and analysis of internet traffic.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says the US is ‘disappointed’ by Russia

The Guardian also reports on indications that GCHQ is pouring money into efforts to gather personal information from mobile phones and apps.

According to one document, GCHQ wants to be able to “exploit any phone, anywhere, any time”.

The details of the NSA payments are set out in GCHQ’s annual “investment portfolios”.

Payments include £17.2m for the agency’s Mastering the Internet project, which gathers and stores vast amounts of “raw” information ready for analysis.

Asked about the payments, a Cabinet Office spokesman told The Guardian: “In a 60-year alliance it is entirely unsurprising that there are joint projects in which resources and expertise are pooled, but the benefits flow in both directions.”

A senior security source in Whitehall added: “The fact is there is a close intelligence relationship between the UK and US and a number of other countries including Australia and Canada.”

Snowden’s asylum in Russia was met by anger from the US.

“We are extremely disappointed that the Russian government would take this step despite our very clear and lawful requests in public and private that Mr Snowden be expelled and returned to the United States,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

Mr Carney said Moscow’s decision undermined US-Russian law enforcement cooperation that had improved since two ethnic Chechens were blamed for the Boston Marathon bombings.

American officials will make contact with their Russian counterparts, Mr Carney said, but he refused to explain any diplomatic repercussions for Moscow.

So as you can see, I blog about the whole story, it is just the scene is being played out on an American Stage. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama was especially good at campaigning in poetry.

It was clear that he was a natural in this role, leaving both his opponents Senator John McCain and Governor Mitt Romney in the rhetorical dust.

Perhaps that is why, even though he won re-election for a second term, he is unwilling to dismantle his campaign apparatus and get into the down and dirty, nitty-gritty work of governing in hard-edged, well-disciplined prose.

Mr Obama’s first term was challenging since he faced a strong Republican opposition intent on stopping his agenda dead in its tracks.

Despite the efforts of the opposition, he was able to pass a piece of hard-fought landmark legislation – Obamacare.

It seems that Mr Obama had hoped his trip to the G8 and Germany would give him just that opportunity.

Last week he was at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on the eve of the 50th Anniversary of JFK’s famous speech to re-capture some of the magic of his 2008 campaign.

This time the president spoke before a much smaller, invited gathering.

Long gone were the “rock star” awaiting throng of hundreds of thousands that he so easily captivated just five years ago.

Realistically, expectations were not so high this time around and this Nobel Peace Prize winner’s only competition last week was not JFK or Ronald Reagan but Barack Obama himself.

Mr Obama has now governed for several years and the times have certainly changed.

The weight of real world problems that he has had to face may have eaten away at the idealistic hope his supporters had for him and his administration.

Optimism and idealism for “Hope and Change” seem to have given way to the hard, cold realities of the toughest job in the world.

Mr Obama has not only been facing a tough domestic opposition but he has also had to come face to face with the severe challenges on the international stage and they visibly taken their toll.

As Congress tries to wrap up some of its important legislation before the July 4 recess, the president and his family are headed for a week-long visit to Africa.

The Senate Immigration Reform Bill is front and centre, and the passage of this piece of historic legislation might need a bit of the president’s encouragement.

If passed, this is likely to be the most important piece of legislation passed in his second term.

At the same time he could also be facing the most the challenging crisis of his presidency.

The “Snowden Crisis” has put the Obama administration’s intelligence-gathering policies in jeopardy, under the public microscope, and has once again eroded the precious trust between the US government and the American people.

How Mr Obama deals with this crisis of trust and how he finds his voice to regain that trust and confidence on this issue could determine his legacy.

Most US citizens are torn. They are uncomfortable with the government having unfettered access to their private communications. At the same time, they understand the government must “snoop” to some extent, when legally justified, to keep them safe.

They also cannot understand how someone like Edward Snowden, an outside contractor, was given access to our top secrets and able to disclose them with such ease.

• This crisis leaves us with some very tough questions ahead:
• What role does journalism play here when it comes to national security?
• Is it within the Freedom of the Press to publish a story like this one worth the price we pay in loss of security?
• Is there a way for an individual to challenge alleged government abuse or wrongdoing without damaging national security?
• What will the fallout be in US relations with China, Russia and the ultimate country that agrees to give Mr Snowden asylum?
• Is WikiLeaks a journalistic endeavour or an enemy of the state?
• Should such sensitive work be done by independent contractors like Booz Allen, or is this a job for full-time government employees or members of the military who swear an oath of allegiance to uphold the US Constitution and take it seriously?
• How much transparency is necessary when it comes to government intelligence programmes designed to protect the “homeland”?
• How much congressional and judicial oversight is enough, and how much is too much?
• And perhaps the toughest question: How much liberty are Americans willing to give up in the name of safety in the electronic, social media, information age?

The “Snowden Crisis” is likely to test the limits of both the president and the American people on these questions and on their desire to maintain their constitutional freedoms.

America is no longer the beacon of freedom it once was, it is not as resolute as it once was, the American Dream has died, the USA is a dying nation. This guy, I think he is a pastor or a bishop from Canada, I am not 100% sure, he cleverly got his friend to get all the noises ever heard and play them all at once. WOW!

I have been listening to these sounds coming from all over the world for a few years now, I have blogged about it before, to no avail, because nobody know what it is, so I researched, HARD on the matter, and I found a piece of scripture that matches these sounds.

Now if you are unaware of this, like totally, prepare to start scratching your head an asking if this indeed scripture. I hear about God every day and how he will come and save me and take away my pain, so ok, I will now tell you, this is Gospel, this is scripture, and this is coming from all ends of the world. I heard this myself, it is like a huge trumpet noise, and it is a disturbing noise
